Recurring Events
Set up repeating events like weekly activities, monthly appointments, and annual birthdays.
Many family activities happen on a regular schedule. Recurring events let you set up repeating schedules once and have them automatically appear on your calendar.
Creating Recurring Events
- Create or edit an event
- Click Repeat or toggle on recurring
- Select the recurrence pattern
- Set an end date (optional)
- Save the event
Recurrence Patterns
Daily
The event repeats every day or every N days.
Examples:
- Daily medication reminder
- Every other day workout
Options:
- Every day
- Every 2 days, 3 days, etc.
Weekly
The event repeats on specific days of the week.
Examples:
- Soccer practice every Tuesday and Thursday
- Piano lessons every Saturday
Options:
- Select which days (Mon, Tue, Wed, etc.)
- Every week, every 2 weeks, etc.
Monthly
The event repeats once a month.
Examples:
- Monthly family meeting
- Bill due dates
Options:
- Same date each month (15th of every month)
- Same day each month (Second Tuesday of every month)
Yearly
The event repeats once a year.
Examples:
- Birthdays
- Anniversaries
- Annual checkups
Options:
- Same date each year
- Same day (First Monday of September)
End Conditions
Choose when the recurring series ends:
Never
Events continue indefinitely. Best for:
- Ongoing weekly activities
- Perpetual reminders
After N Occurrences
Events stop after a set number. Best for:
- Limited-run classes (8-week session)
- Temporary schedules
On Date
Events stop on a specific date. Best for:
- Seasonal activities (ends in May)
- Time-bound commitments
Editing Recurring Events
When you edit a recurring event, you'll choose the scope:
This Event Only
Changes apply only to this one occurrence.
Use for:
- One-time schedule changes
- Adding notes for a specific instance
- Canceling a single occurrence
This and Future Events
Changes apply to this occurrence and all future ones.
Use for:
- Permanent time changes
- New location going forward
- Pattern changes mid-series
All Events
Changes apply to every occurrence in the series.
Use for:
- Correcting mistakes
- Renaming the activity
- Changing attendees
Deleting Recurring Events
Same options as editing:
- Delete this event - Removes just this occurrence
- Delete this and future - Removes from here forward
- Delete all - Removes the entire series
Exceptions
Sometimes you need to skip or modify individual occurrences:
Skipping an Occurrence
- Click on the occurrence to skip
- Click Delete this event only
- The rest of the series continues
Moving an Occurrence
- Click on the occurrence
- Drag to a new time, or edit the date
- Choose This event only
Adding Details to One
- Click on the occurrence
- Add notes or changes
- Save as This event only
Common Patterns
School Schedule
- Weekly pattern: Mon-Fri
- End date: Last day of school
- Skip: School holidays (delete individual occurrences)
Sports Season
- Weekly pattern: Practice days + game day
- End date: Season end
- Duration: 2-4 months typically
Extracurricular Classes
- Weekly pattern: Class day(s)
- Duration: Session length (8-12 weeks)
- Consider: New series for each session
Medical
- Pattern: Monthly or yearly for checkups
- Yearly: Annual physicals, dental cleanings
- Consider: Appointment time may vary
Tips
Don't Over-Recur
If something happens irregularly, create individual events instead.
Use End Dates
Avoid orphaned future events by setting end dates for temporary activities.
Plan for Changes
Sports schedules change. Consider creating new recurring events each season rather than editing.
Check for Conflicts
After creating a recurring event, scan future weeks for conflicts.
