Event Reminders

Configure calendar event reminders and choose when and how you're notified.

Never miss an appointment or activity with calendar event reminders. Configure when you're notified and customize settings by event category.

Default Reminder Times

Nook sends reminders at these default times before events:

Configuring Reminders

Global Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Find Event Reminders
  3. Toggle reminder times on/off
  4. Choose notification channels

Per-Event Overrides

When creating or editing an event:

  1. Click Reminder settings
  2. Add or remove reminder times
  3. Settings apply only to this event

Category-Based Reminders

Different event types may need different reminder times.

Medical Appointments

Default: 1 day + 1 hour before

Why:

  • Time to prepare documents
  • Arrange transportation
  • Remember fasting requirements

Sports Activities

Default: 1 hour before

Why:

  • Pack gear and equipment
  • Account for travel time
  • Time to change clothes

School Events

Default: 1 hour before

Why:

  • Standard preparation
  • Balance with busy schedules

Social Events

Default: 1 day + 1 hour before

Why:

  • Time for gifts or food prep
  • Plan outfits
  • Arrange childcare

Configuring Category Reminders

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Expand Event Reminders
  3. Click on a category
  4. Set custom reminder times

Information Included

  • Event title
  • Time until event starts
  • Start time
  • Location (if set)

Recurring Event Reminders

For recurring events, reminders are sent before each occurrence:

  • Weekly soccer practice → reminder every week
  • Monthly family meeting → reminder every month

Managing Series Reminders

To change reminders for a recurring event:

  1. Edit the event
  2. Modify reminder settings
  3. Choose to apply to:
    • This event only
    • All future events
    • Entire series

Snooze and Dismiss

Snoozing

When you receive a reminder, you can snooze it:

  • Snooze 5 minutes
  • Snooze 15 minutes
  • Snooze 30 minutes

Dismissing

Dismiss a reminder to:

  • Acknowledge you've seen it
  • Stop further snooze reminders
  • Keep the event on your calendar

Multi-Person Events

For events with multiple attendees:

Who Gets Notified

All family members marked as attendees receive reminders based on their preferences.

Individual Settings

Each attendee's reminder settings apply:

  • Mom gets push + SMS
  • Dad gets push only
  • Kids get in-app only

Location-Based Reminders

When events have locations, reminders can include:

  • Address for navigation
  • Estimated travel time (future feature)
  • Parking notes (from event description)

Tips for Effective Reminders

Set Multiple Reminders

For important events, use multiple reminder times:

  • 1 day before: Start preparing
  • 1 hour before: Leave reminder
  • 15 minutes before: Final check

Match Reminders to Prep Time

  • Quick drop-off: 15 minutes
  • Formal event: 1 day + 1 hour
  • Travel required: Add extra time

Use Category Defaults

Configure category defaults once, then all similar events get appropriate reminders automatically.

Review Weekly

Check upcoming events each week and adjust reminders for any that need special attention.
