Build your family's recipe collection in Nook. Add your favorite recipes, organize them by category, and easily add them to your meal plans.
Adding Recipes
Create from Scratch
- Go to Meals > Recipes
- Click Add Recipe
- Fill in the recipe details:
- Title
- Description
- Prep time and cook time
- Servings
- Ingredients
- Instructions
- Category/tags
- Click Save
Import from URL
Have a recipe from a website?
- Click Add Recipe
- Click Import from URL
- Paste the recipe URL
- Nook extracts:
- Title and description
- Ingredients list
- Instructions
- Times and servings
- Review and edit as needed
- Click Save
Supported sites: Most recipe websites work. If import fails, you can still copy/paste content manually.
Manual Entry Tips
For ingredients:
- Use consistent format: "2 cups flour"
- Include preparation notes: "1 onion, diced"
- Group by type if helpful
For instructions:
- Number each step
- Keep steps focused on one action
- Include temperatures and times

Organizing Recipes
Categories
Organize by meal type:
- Breakfast
- Lunch
- Dinner
- Snack
- Dessert
- Side Dish
- Appetizer
Tags
Add multiple tags for flexible organization:
- Cuisine: Italian, Mexican, Asian
- Diet: Vegetarian, Keto, Dairy-free
- Speed: Quick, Weekend Project
- Season: Summer, Fall Comfort Food
Favorites
Star your most-used recipes for quick access. Favorites appear at the top when adding to meal plans.
Finding Recipes
Search
Type in the search box to find recipes by:
- Title
- Ingredients
- Tags
- Description
Filters
Narrow down results:
- Category - Breakfast, Dinner, etc.
- Time - Under 30 min, 30-60 min, 1+ hour
- Dietary - Vegetarian, Gluten-free, etc.
- Safe for family - Compatible with all restrictions
Sort Options
- Recently added
- Alphabetical
- Prep time (shortest first)
- Most used
Editing Recipes
- Open the recipe
- Click Edit
- Make changes
- Click Save
Versioning
Nook keeps recipe history. If you change a recipe, previous meal plans keep the version they were planned with.
Scaling Recipes
Recipes can be scaled up or down:
In the Recipe View
Adjust servings and see updated quantities.
In Meal Planning
When adding to a plan, choose the number of servings. Grocery list quantities adjust automatically.
Scaling Tips
- Some ingredients don't scale linearly (salt, spices)
- Cooking times may need adjustment for larger batches
- Note any scaling caveats in the recipe
Recipe Images
Add photos to your recipes:
- Upload from your device
- Take a photo on mobile
- Paste from clipboard
Good recipe photos help with:
- Quick identification when planning
- Knowing what the dish should look like
- Motivation to cook!
Sharing Recipes
Within Family
All family members can see and use family recipes.
Export
Export a recipe as:
- PDF for printing
- Text for sharing
- Link (if you have sharing enabled)
Deleting Recipes
- Open the recipe
- Click Delete
- Confirm deletion
Note: Deleting a recipe removes it from future meal plans but preserves historical plans.
Recipe Tips
Be Specific
"1 clove garlic, minced" is better than "garlic."
Include Temps and Times
"Bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden."
Note Substitutions
"Can use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream."
Update After Cooking
Did you make adjustments? Update the recipe while it's fresh in your mind.
